Respecting Different Opinions

Regardless of how stupid you think one’s opinion is, it is necessary to respect that opinion to avoid conflicts. Respecting different opinions means that while you have your own point of view, you should not look upon another’s opinion as stupid or unimportant.

To begin with, when in a conversation, make your opinions clear and try to do it politely. State your point by saying ‘I think’ or ‘In my opinion’. These are good ways to begin your opinion on any matter. In case of an argument, it is necessary to tell your conversational partner that you believe what he or she thinks is fine and what your opinion is also fine and that you have nothing to argue about.

Respecting various opinions means to appreciate one’s view point and show consideration to what the other person is trying to say. To respect the opinions of others could also mean your willingness to show consideration. It is the same as respecting the other’s rights to hold or to express his or her opinion.  The key here is to respect one’s right to voice out what he or she thinks and the other is to respect the opinion itself. While a lot of people love to argue and create conflict, to respect different opinions means less conflict and entails peace.
