What are Opinions?

Opinions in general are subjective beliefs and are the interpretation of facts or the outcome of emotion. They may be supported by a debate or argument, although people could draw opposing opinions from the same facts. Opinions seldom change without new arguments presented. Nonetheless, it could be reasoned that an opinion is better supported with facts than another through analyzing the arguments.

The term could be the result of one’s understanding, perspective, beliefs, desires and particular feelings. It could refer to unsubstantiated information in contrast to fact-based beliefs and knowledge. Professional and collective opinions are considered as meeting a higher standard to substantiate the idea.

Others defined it as a judgment, view or appraisal created in the mind regarding a certain matter. It is considered as a belief that is stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge. The word could also mean an advice or expression of judgment when it comes to the legal principles and reasons. People have varying amounts of opinions, depending on the situation and the argument. It is of vital importance to respect one another’s point of view and respect what one believes and considers right for him or her. One’s opinion may not be suitable for another, thus it varies greatly.
