Peevish is a word for being easily annoyed or irritated. Other meanings may include a person who is habitually fretful, difficult to please, prone to complaints and petulant. Peevishness is a type of impatience that lasts long, more ‘sour’ compared to mere petulance and deep-seated.

It appears like something that you grow into. What may have started as a petulant objection to something may well be able to soon turn into a peevish attitude towards the whole thing. Many people also consider it as a person who is being testy, self-willed and forward. Usually, when you think of somebody who is testy and forward, you think of an immediate action instead of a deep-seated attitude.

In general, this word could mean something or someone that is ill-tempered. One could be described as proud, stubborn, disobedient, sullen and many more. You can use the word in sentence in many ways. For instance, consider this sentence:  “John’s peevishness last night was out of control. He stomped upstairs and then slammed the door of his room when I innocently asked how his diet was”. Another example could go something like this: “Member for North-East Hampshire experienced halfway through the speech when she became peevish regarding proportional representation”.
