Handle Frustrating Persons

Everyday, there are many good reasons to become frustrated.  Several frustrating things could happen in a day and there are also frustrating persons you have to deal with. Frustration is a natural feeling that affects everyone, young and old alike. When someone frustrates you, make sure to take a breath before you react. Decide if you want to wait to calm down or talk right away.

When dealing with frustrating people try focus on a certain issue and do not mount a personal attack and do not resort to insults or threats. When you listen, do it non-defensively and do not attempt to interrupt or react. Avoid an aggressive body language or tone of voice. Keep in mind that when you appreciate a person’s motivation, it will become easier to be patient. Consider sensing if the person is insecure, frightened and realize that this could be painful.

Try to respond with compassion and clarity since this could take others off their defensive side and   they will be more comfortable in admitting their role in causing frustration. Instead of generalizing, describe everything in terms of remedies to a certain task and state your needs. After this, check out if the behavior improves.  If there is no improvement, try to minimize contact with the person or your expectations.
