Opinions are conclusions or beliefs held with confidence but not always backed with positive knowledge or proof. An opinion is a judgment that is based on a special knowledge provided by an expert like a medical opinion. People have varying opinions and it is important that one should respect these different opinions to avoid conflict.
Respecting other’s opinions is part of a bigger attitude of respect for people that one should develop in life. Nevertheless, this is not easy and requires self-control, sensitivity, self-esteem, fairness, generosity and tolerance. It applies to both stated and unspoken opinions.
However, to respect does not mean becoming untrue to your own points of view. It merely requires you to recognize that other people are also entitled to view the word differently and when they share their views with you, they will get a fair hearing. Keep in mind that one believes is a vital part of who he or she is, thus people tend to see criticism to one’s views as rejection. When this occurs, resentment and defensiveness could put a conversation to an end. This means that one should follow good agreement protocols. To respect another’s view means to recognize that while you do not agree with him or her, what you hear is not unreasonable and makes sense as well as yours.
